naXture multi-actuator Solutions – Compact Power for Industry, Flexibility for the Future
At automatica 2025, MetisMotion’s three-finger gripper drew a crowd.
At first glance, it looked like a precision tool for delicate handling.
Look closer, and it revealed something much bigger: a completely new approach to multi-actuator design.
The presented gripper integrates four one quadrant operation naXture actuators to deliver six distinct movement options in an exceptionally compact package.
In conventional systems, more degrees of freedom usually means more actuators: adding bulk, complexity, and cost. naXture breaks that rule.
The secret lies in its electro-hydraulic converters, each no larger than a human finger. Every converter doubles the number of possible actuator states—such as extend, retract, or hold position—without adding a full set of extra components for each degree of freedom. Instead, key elements of the actuator system are shared intelligently across movements. The result: every additional capability makes the overall system more attractive, not less.

For industrial automation, this opens the door to compact, efficient solutions for complex tasks – assembly processes that once required multiple large actuators can now be handled by smaller, more integrated systems. Think of gripping, positioning, and manipulating parts in tight spaces, all with one unified module.
And while industry may be the immediate focus, the horizon is even wider. In the human body, 640 muscles work together to produce fluid, coordinated movement; most robots have fewer than ten actuators, severely limiting dexterity. naXture’s compact, scalable multi-actuator architecture could one day change that – making humanoid robots far more capable without an explosion in size or complexity.
From precision assembly lines to the next generation of robotics, naXture is proving that when it comes to actuation, more can mean smaller, smarter, and stronger.
